Many Christians think they can bend God's will to suit their selfish desires, the truth is clear: anything outside of His perfect plan is sin. From the ancient tale of Adam and Eve to our own prayers today, the message resounds — God is Sovereign and omnipotent and we are called to seek and fulfill His divine purpose–PERIOD.
"Whether, then, you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God."
1 Corinthians 10:31
Prayer isn't about persuading God to change His mind; it's about aligning our hearts with His sovereign will, finding our identity in Christ, and joining the cosmic symphony of His Kingdom powered by His Grace.
"This, then, is how you should pray: 'Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.'" Matthew 6:9-10
Prayer is a bold declaration of trust, a surrender of our weaknesses, and an invitation for His transformative power to work in us and through us–LET HIS LIGHT SHINE THROUGH DARKNESS!
"For all things are for your sakes, so that the grace which is spreading to more and more people may cause the giving of thanks to abound to the glory of God." 2 Corinthians 4:15
But why pray if we can't change God's plans? Prayer isn't just about altering circumstances; it's about experiencing the fullness of God's Grace, love, wisdom, and favor. It's about partnering with Jesus in restoring His creation and finding JOY, PEACE, and STRENGTH in His presence.
"Do not be called leaders; for One is your Leader, that is, Christ." Matthew 23:10
Through prayer, we are not merely seeking answers; we are becoming vessels of His love and agents of love sent to His Kingdom to love others. Prayer is our precious divine dance of humility and worship, where we relinquish our desires and embrace God’s perfect will. Then, we surrender all and allow God to work in us and through us, to His great pleasure.
"But do not be called Rabbi; for One is your Teacher, and you are all brothers." Matthew 23:8
So let us approach prayer with reverence and expectancy, knowing that in seeking to find and surrender to His will, we discover the true abundance of life.
"I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me." Galatians 2:20
Let us cast aside the notion of God as a cosmic wish-granting Genie and instead embrace Him as the sovereign Creator of the universe, whose plans for us are far greater than anything we could imagine. In prayer, we find not just answers but transformation—a revolution of our heart that changes our life and the very fabric of our existence.
"for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure."
Philippians 2:13
Focusing on God's Sovereignty in prayer is not just advisable; it's absolutely imperative for a life of true fulfillment and purpose IN CHRIST.
"Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, 'My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.'" Matthew 26:39
When we prioritize our own selfish desires over God's sovereign will, we risk falling into the trap of seeking temporary conveniences and pleasures rather than eternal significance.
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight." Proverbs 3:5-6
Our limited understanding and finite perspectives pale in comparison to the omniscient wisdom of the Sovereign Almighty God.
"Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth." Psalms 46:10
By centering our prayers on God's Sovereignty, we acknowledge His infinite power and wisdom and recognize that His plans far surpass our own.
"You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised." Hebrews 10:36
This shift in focus transforms our prayers from self-serving wishlists to sacred communion with the Creator of the universe.
"Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you." 1 Peter 5:6-7
Jesus reminds us that we are but vessels in His grand design, called to align our hearts with His divine purpose. He sees everything and knows everything. In comparison to Jesus, we are blind and dumb. Through prayer, we have the mind of Christ and we live in and from His Heart in God.
"For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts." Isaiah 55:8-9
Acknowledge God's Sovereignty Through Prayer
Moreover, embracing God's Sovereignty in prayer cultivates humility, surrender, and trust—essential virtues for a life of true abundance and joy. It allows us to release the burden of control and rest in the assurance that His will is perfect and His love unfailing.
"Now listen, you who say, 'Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.' Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, 'If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.'" James 4:13-15
Ultimately, by surrendering our selfish desires and pleasures to God's Sovereignty, we open ourselves to His greater blessings and the fulfillment of His eternal plan for our lives.
"Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things." Colossians 3:2
God is absolutely Sovereign, and we are not. In his absolute Sovereignty, God is Lord, Savior, Master, Prophet, Teacher, Leader, High Priest, and King (and much more…). It is extremely important to always remember, that God is Sovereign, and we are His. We have no Sovereignty apart from God, our Father. We, the New Humanity, pray to the one and only Sovereign God, and He answers our prayers.
We pray to honor God. We surrender ourselves wholly to God to honor Him in prayer. Whenever we humbly submit in prayer to obey and follow Him, we honor Him.
God, in his almighty omnipotence, His absolute Sovereignty over all of creation, is our Majestic King, and He has announced His ordained authority and absolute will through His Son, Jesus. Jesus is Most High, and there is none like Him–NONE. God has established Jesus as Lord, Master, and Savior over all His creation. We, the New Humanity are subjected to God, our Father, through Jesus Christ our Lord. So, in prayer, we humbly submit fully to Him.
"After you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, WILL HIMSELF perfect, confirm, strengthen, and establish you." 1 Peter 5:10
We, the New Humanity, are not sovereign, not almighty, and not omnipotent. We are not the Creator; we are the created. We need to be in His presence and get there through humility in prayer.
- Prayer is the attitude of absolute submission, subjection, and surrender to Jesus, our Lord, Savior, Master, and King.
- Prayer is the attitude of absolute rest, trust, confidence, and trust in Jesus, who created us and has a perfect plan and will for our lives.
- Prayer is the attitude of absolute repentance, confession, and thanksgiving in His humility.
- Prayer is the attitude of denying self, dying to self, and living for Christ and IN CHRIST.
- Prayer is the attitude of mercy, forgiveness, and peace that goes beyond all comprehension.
- In prayer, through absolute humility and surrender, we are empowered by God’s Grace to ASK GOD TO SUPPLY ALL OF OUR NEEDS.
- Prayer is not an attempt to alter, change, or modify God’s eternal plan and perfect will for our lives. Before praying to alter what God has given us, let’s find out what it is in prayer.
- God is absolutely Sovereign over everything, including every part of our lives and futures. God created us and knows everything about us; therefore, He is the best person to determine what is good for us and what is not.
"For if by the offense of the one, death reigned through the one, much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ... The Law came in so that the offense would increase; but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more, so that, as sin reigned in death, so also grace would reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." Romans 5:17, 20-21
In prayer, we humble ourselves, seek God’s plan and purpose for our lives, and ask for wisdom, strength, and favor to cooperate fully with God.
"to be put into effect when the times reach their fulfilment – to bring unity to all things in heaven and on earth under Christ. In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will,"
Ephesians 1:10-11
Prayer is humbling ourselves, denying ourselves, and seeking to colabor with God as He provides everything we need by Grace.
Prayer is to become a humble, grateful empty vessel that God has honored in His will and in His way.
"who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of a man, but of God." John 1:13
Everything made or created was created by Jesus, through Jesus, and for Jesus. Jesus claims He did everything for us, the recipients of His work of righteousness. Consequently, Jesus made us the righteousness of God in Christ. The New Humanity is born.
The New Humanity, being born again, is not of man's will but of God's will. Believers, followers of Jesus Christ, are born again, born of God.
"and whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do the things that are pleasing in His sight." 1 John 3:22
God is our Maker; we are created, and we are His creatures. Through prayer, we have been invited to join our Father, God, who is in Heaven.
"This is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us." 1 John 5:14
Prayer is joining God’s ordained will. In prayer, we either seek for ourselves or give all of ourselves for others.
We join in prayer to be conformed into His image of self-sacrificing love. God’s Grace is His power to fulfill His will in and through us. God’s Grace is God’s power and might (Sovereignty and omnipotence) to do in us what only God can do, and He does it through us as His colaborers.
The New Humanity is invited to join Heaven through prayer, to participate in what the Eternal God is doing in Heaven and the Earth, His will.
"and this, not as we had expected, but they first gave themselves to the Lord and to us by the will of God." 2 Corinthians 8:5
Through prayer, the New Humanity is called and empowered to join Heaven in prayer.
God’s will is for all of humanity to know Him, to love Him, and to follow Him in absolute surrender and obedience. God’s will is to empower us, the believers, to conform into His image of self-sacrificial, self-giving, radical love.
"And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests which we have asked from Him." 1 John 5:16
It is God’s will that we lay down our lives, deny ourselves, and serve Him. It is God’s will that we honor Him by giving Him our complete lives and surrendering everything to Him in absolute obedience.
It is God’s will that we seek His will for our lives. God created us, and He knows our identity and our worth. We are the created beings God created on purpose–and He loves us. God adores His creation. He has a plan and a purpose for each one of us.
It is God’s will that we seek Him in prayer to learn our identity in Christ. In prayer, we learn God’s will for the world and our lives.
In prayer, by God’s Grace, we are empowered to know, learn, and do God’s will. In prayer, we align with God’s will, and we are transformed by His love and empowered to fulfill His will. In prayer, we receive God’s courage, strength, and might to carry out His perfect will. HE DOES IT ALL.
"Whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son." John 14:13
In prayer, we empty ourselves completely in humility to do His will. In prayer, we openly, readily, and eagerly confess our weaknesses and failings to our Lord and Savior. In prayer, by His Humility, we are strengthened to confess and give over all our weaknesses, failings, mistakes, errors, and sins.
Through Humility, we are empowered by Grace to seek Him, seek His will, and know His plan, purpose, and mission for our lives. God, our Eternal Father, created each one of us intimately. He knows us better than we will ever know ourselves. He knows the plans He has for us. Our part is to surrender to Him in prayer and ask Him to work in His absolute obedience to the Father.
"Sitting down, Jesus called the Twelve and said, ‘Anyone who wants to be first must be the very last, and the servant of all.’ Mark 9:35
GOD IS SOVEREIGN
In prayer, the humble receive God’s wisdom, creativity, and plans to fulfill them.
God’s plan is for us and for the world. It involves learning His will and then being empowered to fulfill it through prayer.
"Even now I know that whatever You ask of God, God will give You." John 11:22
In prayer, we approach God’s Throne of Grace, where Jesus reigns supreme. Jesus made all things and is for all things. All things we made for Him, and through Him.
Jesus made life, gives life, and is the potter of all life. Prayer is to join Jesus as the potter, as we are the clay in the Master’s hands. In prayer, by Grace, Jesus transforms us and conforms us into His image through His finished works of love.
"For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me and for the gospel will save it." Mark 8:35
We don’t change God in prayer or move God in prayer or through prayer. In prayer, we join God’s purpose, plan, and mission; we don’t change it. Who are we to change God’s ETERNAL PLAN?
We don’t go into prayer to change God’s eternal plan. We humbly go into prayer as one alive from the dead, and we present ourselves to God as a living sacrifice. We pray to learn God’s will, His plan, and His purpose in joining it–NOT TO CHANGE IT.
"If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you." John 15:7
